Our Ridgeway has been the best thing we've added to our backyard. Three summers in and it still looks brand new. The cedar holds up beautifully through Tennessee winters.
We started by building one playset, for one daughter, in one backyard.
Eight years later, we've shipped cedar playsets to backyards all across Northeast Tennessee — and we still build every one in the same shop on Buffalo Trail.
Tom and Dana Reeves started Johnson City Playgrounds in 2018.
Tom built the first one — a simple A-frame swing and slide — for their daughter Hattie's third birthday. He'd grown up on a farm and figured he could make something that would outlast the plastic ones at the box store.
Three neighbors asked him to build them one. Then a friend at church. Then a stranger on Facebook who'd seen Hattie's. Dana started taking the orders. They turned the back of the property into a small shop, hired their first employee in 2020, and never advertised — until now.
Everything we sell is still cut, sanded, and stained on Buffalo Trail. We use real cedar because plywood and pressure-treated pine don't belong where kids climb. We build to CPSC and ASTM safety standards because that's just the floor. And we're backordered because we'd rather have a queue than cut a corner — the families who've waited tell us their kids are still on it years later.
A four-step plan, no surprises.
Tell us your yard
Send a few photos and rough measurements through the contact form. We'll confirm fit and recommended safety zone.
Lock the ship date
Because we're backordered, we hold real production slots. We give you a firm window before any deposit.
Kit or crew
Choose self-install (delivery + boxed kit, color-coded) or on-site install (single-day build by our two-person team).
Play, for years to come
10-year wood warranty, 5-year hardware, 1 year on slides and accessories. Your kids will be playing on it long after they swore they'd outgrown it.
Backyards across Northeast Tennessee.
We went with the on-site install and it was worth every dollar. They were here at 7 a.m. and finished by sunset. Our girls were swinging that same evening.
I'm not handy. I was nervous about the kit, but the instructions are genuinely the best I've ever followed. Took me and my brother-in-law a Saturday and a Sunday morning.
We worked with them on a custom design for our slope. They figured out a tiered platform we never would have thought of. The kids call it 'the treehouse castle.'
Tell us about your yard. We'll do the rest.
Whether you've already picked a model or you want us to design something from scratch around your yard — start a conversation. Send a few photos, we'll respond within one business day with a real ship-date window for your build.
